You used to IE, so you should know that Firefox is just like IE, with a few exceptions. So is Mozilla, except there are a few more exceptions there, and some of them major. Firefox is much better than microsofts browser. Maybe you should speak to a friend about it. It has many bells and whistles that you can attach to it. It is promoted all over the internet, with GetFirefox buttons, and many people sharing what they think is useful with addons for it.
If you have an hour or so to spare, which is likely if you use IE, as it does have connection problems, then see here for many sites that are promoting Firefox, and find out why they are doing just that:

For me its enough that over 50,000 people are building and testing Firefox, with another few million who have submitted reports, and within days these security problems have been fixed, with new releases. The fact that it can upgrade itself is great. It stopped asking me silly questions, and got on with its job.

Its so simple to add an addon or extension or new theme. Talk about no popups!
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
This is why I love Firefox because it has so many useful extensions. But of course you have to not overdo it, as some less popular extensions are not good, and of course no use to me.
If you have another hour to spare, then you should click on these two links.
The first:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
download firefox, and then install it by trying to open it (usually a doubleclick) then its installed. You will probably want ie as your default browser, so click no when it offers you a form asking whether you think it should be the default browser. Then, when you get confident with it, you should check
The second:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:1/cat:all/
Just have a look, and see what its got, or even search for something you might like.
Thats it.
